Clinical Naturopathy

Clinical naturopathy is a systems-based form of medicine that evaluates how the body’s core physiological systems interact — including nervous system regulation, immune function, gut health, endocrine balance, and brain physiology.

Many health conditions develop through the interaction of stress physiology, inflammation, nutritional status, environmental exposures, lifestyle patterns, and life experience. Clinical naturopathy works to identify these underlying mechanisms and restore the physiological conditions that support regulation, recovery, and long-term health.

Clients often seek naturopathic support for concerns such as digestive disturbance, fatigue, hormonal imbalance, inflammation, sleep disruption, anxiety, or depression. These symptoms frequently reflect broader patterns involving the gut–brain axis, nervous system regulation, immune function, metabolic health, and inflammatory processes.

My approach integrates traditional naturopathic medicine — including herbal medicine, nutritional therapy, homeopathy, and targeted supplementation — with a deeper understanding of trauma physiology, nervous system regulation, and mental health.

Research increasingly demonstrates that chronic stress responses influence mood, immunity, digestion, inflammation, cardiovascular health, and cognitive function. Addressing these physiological processes is therefore central to meaningful recovery.

A Whole-System Approach

Naturopathic medicine considers the body as an interconnected system in which physical health, emotional wellbeing, immune function, digestion, sleep, and energy production continually influence one another.

Clinical assessment explores physiological patterns such as:

• gut–brain axis disruption
• nervous system dysregulation
• chronic inflammation
• hormonal imbalance
• nutrient depletion
• mitochondrial and metabolic function
• circadian rhythm disruption
• long-term physiological responses to stress and trauma

These patterns may contribute to symptoms such as anxiety, depression, digestive disturbance, fatigue, inflammatory conditions, skin issues, headaches, sleep disturbance, and ADHD-like presentations.

Understanding these underlying processes allows treatment to be directed at the systems organising the symptoms rather than isolated symptom management.

Mental Health

Mental health and physical health are deeply interconnected.

Conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, burnout, and chronic stress frequently involve physiological processes including nervous system dysregulation, inflammatory signalling, hormonal imbalance, disrupted sleep, and gut microbiome disturbance.

Many of the clients I support present with complex patterns in which psychological and physiological factors interact. This includes individuals navigating presentations associated with PTSD, complex trauma, borderline personality disorder (BPD) or emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD), where long-standing nervous system dysregulation and trauma physiology may influence both emotional regulation and physical health.

Clinical naturopathic care can therefore form part of a broader strategy supporting stability, resilience, and recovery for a broad range of presentations.

Clinical Background

My naturopathic practice is informed by over a decade of clinical work in psychological and trauma-informed settings, including work with the NHS.

Alongside formal naturopathic training and registration with the Complementary Medical Association, my work draws from extensive experience supporting individuals with trauma physiology, depression, anxiety disorders, nervous system dysregulation, and complex emotional health presentations.

This clinical background allows naturopathic care to be integrated with a sophisticated understanding of behavioural patterns, emotional regulation, and the physiological impact of chronic stress.

Clinical Assessment

The clinical naturopathic assessment is a comprehensive evaluation designed to identify the physiological patterns contributing to both physical and mental health concerns.

Assessment includes structured exploration of:

• detailed symptom and medical history review
• nervous system and stress physiology patterns
• digestive and gut–brain axis function
• sleep and circadian rhythm assessment
• nutritional intake and metabolic factors
• immune and inflammatory patterns
• hormonal and endocrine influences
• lifestyle and environmental contributors

Following this consultation, clients receive a detailed written naturopathic treatment plan. These reports are typically 10–15 pages long and provide a structured framework for improving health over time.

Individualised Treatment Plan

Following assessment, clients receive a structured naturopathic treatment plan addressing the physiological mechanisms identified during consultation.

Treatment plans may include:

• clinical interpretation and root-cause analysis of physiological patterns
• gut–brain axis and nervous system considerations
• herbal medicine prescriptions
• homeopathic prescribing
• targeted nutritional supplementation
• dietary and nutritional guidance
• nervous system regulation strategies
• lifestyle and behavioural interventions
• phased treatment guidance

Naturopathic supplementation is typically recommended for approximately three months in order to support measurable physiological change. Homeopathic prescriptions vary depending on the individual case and may involve a single dose or occasional dosing depending on the remedy and clinical picture.

Treatment plans are designed to support measurable physiological change rather than short-term symptom management.

Clinical Areas of Support

Clinical naturopathic care may support individuals experiencing a wide range of health concerns, including:

• anxiety and chronic stress
• depression
• burnout and fatigue
• sleep disturbance and insomnia
• digestive disorders (IBS, reflux, bloating)
• inflammatory and immune conditions
• hormonal imbalance
• headaches and chronic tension
• skin conditions such as eczema or acne
• ADHD-like symptoms related to nervous system dysregulation
• PTSD & complex trauma patterns
• borderline personality disorder (BPD) / emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD)
